This is what we listened to every night, on this vehicle while traveling from state to state, on tour this summer with Jazmine Sullivan. Our driver, Mike Diddy, would play it and sing along aloud with the curtains closed. Mike Diddy is a real country dude from Mobile, Alabama, same place my mother was born and raised.

Trips - To The Top

I spent the last couple days cleaning out my closet and throwing out stuff that I don’t use anymore. I took some time and went through my archive of music that I had written and produced from when I had dreams of being a Producer/Rapper lol! here’s me and my group “Trips” on our song “To The Top” that I produced the beat for. this is from 2004. I was about to turn 19 years old and This is what I sounded like.

In my rap I mentioned Prada’s, Pelle Pelle leather jackets, fitted hats, vvs clarity diamond earings and Shape up’s, all things that I was proud of myself for having multiple’s of hahah! (I still own 7 pairs of Prada sneakers that I’ve never worn before and will never wear). It always makes me upset to see people in the hood wearing them now thinking that they’re “fly”, I was doing that back in 2003-04 along with Evisu jeans and stuff like that. I was in the first semester of me sophomore year in college. Pretty funny to look back at a younger you.

Trips was started in 2001, when we were sophomores in High School, at the age of 15. In the beginning and before Pro Tools, we would record onto my tascam 4 track recorder that Mike Brinkley (Nas’ old manager who now works with Big Sean and Estelle) bought me. I would sequence the beats in my kurzweil 2500x live to a tape that was recording on the first 2 tracks, then record vocals on the last 2. I would then take those 4 channels of information and mix them live to a tape deck that was connected to the 4 track recorder. We used to sell our mix cd’s in High School between classes. This made us a very popular bunch. Shout out to TNT and E. Cash. We started using pro tools in ‘03 My name was Pillz (Pillzburry Doe Boy)!
